An approximately 100-year-old Newcastle weatherboard home transformed through extensive preparation and an individual colour scheme.

This home needed substantial preparation before repainting. Existing coatings were severely weathered and peeling, while some weatherboards needed replacement. The homeowner wanted bright, individual colours, so we tested several samples to help bring her vision to life.

Before: weathered timber and peeling paint

Much of the old coating was barely holding on. Some weatherboards required heavy mechanical preparation before they could be undercoated and painted.

Replacement weatherboards and careful preparation

Hodge Made Carpentry replaced the weatherboards on the right side of the home before painting. We then prepared the exterior surfaces, giving the heavily deteriorated areas the attention they needed before applying undercoats and finishing coats.

Bringing the homeowner's colours to life

Several samples were tested before the final colour scheme was selected. Blue weatherboards, light trims, contrasting gutters and a rose-coloured front door gave the home the individual look the homeowner wanted.

  • Walls: Porter's Serene in Dulux Weathershield Low Sheen.
  • Gutters: Porter's Caraway in Dulux Weathershield Semi Gloss.
  • Trims: Porter's Popcorn in Porter's Aqua Satin.
  • Front door: Porter's Rosewood in Porter's Aqua Satin.

Painting from the gutters down

The scope included weatherboards, gutters, downpipes, fascias, windows, doors, veranda beams and posts. Painting these elements together carried the colour scheme through the exterior while highlighting the home's original features.

The finished home

The fresh exterior gives this character home a new presence. Behind the finished result were extensive preparation, replacement boards where needed and time spent getting the colours right.
